The most important sales driver for many retailers is just around the corner: the Christmas business. What are the best Christmas presents? The Luna Journal has been searching for promising toys and trends.
Every year the question arises as to the right portfolio for the Christmas business. What will children want and parents buy? Experts from trade and associations have already given tips about Christmas presents. Once again it is clear that the mix of classics and new products is likely to be best received by customers. A glance at the nominations for the TOP 10 toy hit list of the German Toy Trade Association (Handelsverband Spielwaren), for example, proves this. “Every year, consumers ask for the hottest toys. Our TOP 10 provides the answer. These toys are a hit with children this year: A selection of 41 toys with the best chances of success made it into the final round,” says Willy Fischel, BVS Managing Director. The finalists included the Kullerbü Spielbahn multi-storey car park (Haba), the Benjamin Blümchen rocking animal (heunec) and a new edition of Ubongo (Franckh-Kosmos).

But new products are also likely to be under many fir trees this year. Among other things, unicorns with rainbow manes (WowWee), talking building blocks (VTech) and a robot chameleon (Silverlit) were nominated for the Top 10 toy list. Classics such as railways or dolls are also included in the recommendations for Christmas gifts. For the companies, the BVS list is a real added value, as it creates customer attention in the highly competitive Christmas business. These Christmas hits are presented by retailers and brand manufacturers in their own Christmas wishes catalogue and on a poster in specialist toy stores. Nominated toys can be identified by their own nomination label on product packaging and in advertising.

The Hot Toys list of Toys “R “Us is intended to support customers. As early as September, the Group published its Christmas recommendations. Elke Lauf, VP General Merchandise Manager at Toys “R “Us Central Europe: “This year we are presenting the hottest toys especially early so that parents, grandparents and all gift lovers can take their time to choose the right Christmas present. With so many great toys and new products to choose from, it’s not always easy to keep track of things”. A total of 17 products are on the list of the company’s own Christmas hits. Top topic here are horses. With the true-to-life plush ponies from Pony Cycle, the large Schleich horse farm and the Spirit Riding Free Set from Playmobil, the list of recommendations includes three products for this popular animal. Also included are the house of the surprise hit L.O.L Surprise, a new blaster from Nerf and the rescue vehicle from the series hit Paw Patrol.
